The dosage of these hormones described below is often used for patients undergoing weight loss treatments, bariatric surgery, and/or use of other mechanical resources for satiety stimulation and calorie restriction to aid in treatment.

  1. a) Grelin, also known as the “hunger hormone”, is a peptide hormone produced mainly by the epsilon cells of the stomach and pancreas when the stomach is empty, and acts in the lateral hypothalamus and the arcuate nucleus, generating the sensation of hunger.
  2. b) Gastrin is a 17 amino acid linear chain peptide hormone released by endocrine cells of the gastrointestinal tract, which stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid (part of the gastric juice) and stimulates the motility of the stomach.
