The dosage of these hormones described below is often used for patients undergoing weight loss treatments, bariatric surgery and/or use of other mechanical resources for satiety stimulation and calorie restriction to aid in treatment.
- a) Grelin, also known as the “hunger hormone”, is a peptide hormone produced mainly by the epsilon cells of the stomach and pancreas when the stomach is empty, and acts in the lateral hypothalamus and the arcuate nucleus, generating the sensation of hunger.
(b) Gastrin is a linear chain peptide hormone with 17 amino acids released by endocrine cells of the gastrointestinal tract, which stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid (part of gastric juice) and stimulates motility of the stomach.
