Technical Information: The low circulating concentrations of free T3 and T4 require a methodology capable of detecting minimum concentrations with very high precision (below picomol/L), and able to prevent disturbances between the free and bound fraction, in the course of the procedure. The technique employed by the laboratory is called Radioimmunoassay (RIA), and evidences high specificity due to the ability of its antibody to recognize a single antigen in a heterogeneous mixture.
