DYSBIOSIS (INDICAN)

Collection Instr. …………: Fasting not required

Technical Information: Indican is the result of the breakdown of intestinal tryptophan and is normally present in traces in the urine. Its intestinal absorption is higher in the presence of constipation or increased intestinal putrefaction. Thus, the level of indican is increased in enteritis, intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus, and gastrointestinal neoplasms. Indican is also elevated in bacterial breakdown of body proteins such as septicemia and gangrene.
